Joe Frazier Film Premieres
"Joe Frazier: When the Smoke Clears" will premiere this autumn at the Philadelphia Film Festival, FICTS Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival and the prestigious DocNYC documentary festival in New York.
The film will screen first in Philadelphia, the adopted city of the legendary fighter as part of Philadelphia Film Festival on October 22, followed by a screening at New York’s most important documentary festival Doc NYC on November 8, where it is one of the headline projects.
The film’s European premiere will be at the world’s top sports film festival in Milan on November 2nd.
Four years in the making "Joe Frazier: When the Smoke Clears" has had unparalleled access to the boxing icon and the film contains extensive and unique observational footage. It tells the story of Joe’s life and career and of the sad demise of his iconic Philadelphia gym. There are contributions from the likes of George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Angelo Dundee, Bernard Hopkins as well as Joe’s friends and family.
Top international factual film making magazine Realscreen has called it a ‘must see observational documentary’.
The film has also been backed by the World Boxing Council who will pay tribute to Joe Frazier at their annual convention taking place in Las Vegas in December, where the film will be screened.
Director Mike Todd stated that: “This project has been a long road for us. It’s fantastic that we’re able to premier the film at these top international events.”
Joe Frazier will attend both US premieres and has offered his personal support to the project. He believes that it is the first time his story has truly been told. He said of the film: “It really lets people see a true picture of what I am about and where I am coming from."
His son Marvis, who also features in the film has called the doc “touching and beautiful”.
The film is being distributed by leading documentary distributor Louise Rosen. With a range of international broadcasters having expressed an interest, the film is expected to receive its first television airing in early 2012.
